From April 22–24, 2026, marine mammal experts from APEM Group (APEM) and CSA Ocean Sciences, now part of APEM, united in Dundee, Scotland to present papers at the European Cetacean Society Conference. Joana Torres of APEM presented on the application of aerial survey methodologies to establish baseline data for marine mammals in support of offshore wind development, while Kim Kobo, Project Scientist with CSA, presented her research on the reproductive traits of bottlenose dolphins along the Mediterranean coast of Israel, contributing to an ongoing long-term population study led by the University of Haifa.
Following their presentations, Joana and Kim met in person for the first time since the announcement in February that CSA Ocean Sciences Inc was joining the APEM Group. Behind the scenes, teams around the globe from both organizations have been aligning capabilities, processes, and resources to expand marine environmental services across territories.
In early May, shortly after the conference in Scotland, CSA officially joined the APEM Group and, as a result, is now part of the Applus+ Environmental Services Group.
Commenting on the meeting, Kim said, “It was great to finally meet Joana in person. I look forward to working more closely with her and other APEM colleagues to further integrate best-in-class marine mammal observation and monitoring into offshore practices.”
