Spill Response Support Services
CSA delivers a full suite of environmental services to help the oil and gas industry prepare for and respond to marine oil spills, with capabilities extending from shallow nearshore waters to ultra-deep offshore environments. Our multidisciplinary team supports planning, emergency response, environmental assessment, and post-incident recovery through science-driven, regulator-approved methodologies. Our services include:
- Spill response planning and exercises
- Comprehensive sampling and monitoring programs from the surf zone to the deep sea
- Dispersant monitoring at the surface and subsea, aligned with spill monitoring assessment and response technologies (SMART) and other international protocols
- Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) program development and operational support
- High-integrity data collection, QA/QC processes, and data management systems
- Secure, cloud-based command and control platform for complete response tracking and coordination
- Baseline environmental studies for pre-activity planning and regulatory compliance
- Remotely operated vehicle (ROV) tooling and sensor integration for precision sampling and observation
- Sampling and analysis plan development for regulatory submissions
- Sediment sampling and coring for hydrocarbon fingerprinting and impact tracing
- Natural Resource Damage Assessments (NRDA) and third-party environmental evaluations
- Oil seeps and leaks detection and monitoring
- Environmental impact assessments and post-spill recovery tracking

Specialized Spill Response Equipment
CSA owns and operates a complete inventory of ocean-ready instrumentation tailored for use in spill response and monitoring campaigns, including real-time, in-situ monitoring tools for dispersant effectiveness and hydrocarbon detection. Our equipment can be rapidly mobilized for deployment on vessels of opportunity or integrated with ROVs and autonomous underwater vehicles. Key equipment includes:
- Surface oil slick and sheen sampling kits
- Conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) sensors
- Dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and pH sensors
- High-sensitivity fluorometers for hydrocarbon detection
- GO-FLO water samplers and Niskin bottles
- Differential GPS systems and navigation software
- Winches, A-frames, and electromechanical cables
- Rosette carousels with integrated sensors
- HD video and still imaging systems for deepwater documentation
- Laser in-situ scattering and transmissometry (LISST) and Silcams
CSA’s Proprietary Slick Kit
Developed in-house by CSA experts, the Slick Kit is a specialized, field-ready tool designed for rapid and safe surface sampling of oil slicks, sheens, and emulsified materials in marine environments.
This self-contained kit allows for the collection of multiple sample types, including weathered oil and mousse, increasing the likelihood of recovering sufficient material for chemical analysis—even in dynamic or degraded conditions.
