CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) is participating in the 40th Annual Environmental Permitting Summer School on Marco Island, Florida, one of the state’s leading forums for environmental permitting and resource management professionals. As part of the Mangroves, Seagrasses, and Living Shorelines session on Friday, July 24, CSA’s Mark Fonseca, Ph.D. will join Ray Dennis of Stantec to present “Challenges of Assessing Seagrass Impacts & Mitigation Using UMAM.”
The presentation will highlight the arrival of the invasive seagrass Halophila stipulacea in Florida and examine the scientific and regulatory challenges associated with applying the Uniform Mitigation Assessment Method (UMAM) to seagrass impacts and mitigation planning, drawing on extensive experience with seagrass assessment, permitting, restoration, and mitigation planning both state and world-wide. Participation in events like the Environmental Permitting Summer School helps CSA stay at the forefront of environmental science and regulatory practice while contributing to discussions that shape the future of coastal habitat management and restoration.
