Deepwater & Ultra-Deepwater Mooring Experience

Shallow coastal inlets and abyssal plains require fundamentally different mooring engineering, and CSA has designed and operated systems across that full range. Our deepwater track record includes:

Clarion Clipperton Zone, Pacific Ocean (since 2019): Design, fabrication, and deployment of subsurface metocean buoy arrays in water depths up to 6,000 m for deep ocean mineral exploration, instrumented with acoustic Doppler current profilers and sensors for currents, waves, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, suspended sediments, and pH.

Western Pacific, Japan (ongoing): Oceanographic moorings and full water-column profiling to 5,500 m, compliant with draft International Seabed Authority (ISA) current-measurement guidelines, supporting Environmental Baseline Survey work for deep-sea mineral extraction.

Standards-based design: Extreme current profiles and mooring design criteria developed to offshore engineering standards, using ocean reanalysis datasets.

Since 2019, CSA has designed, fabricated, and deployed subsurface metocean buoy arrays in water depths up to 6,000 m to support deep ocean mineral exploration in the Pacific. Instrumentation includes acoustic Doppler current profilers and sensors for currents, waves, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, suspended sediments, and pH — one of the deepest sustained metocean monitoring programs in the industry.
